When you engage Aierland on your behalf we promise the following
Aierland has been asked to source a very diverse range of items. However several years of experience has led us to focus more in particular areas. We have learned how to tell middleman from manufacturer. We have also learned that appearances can be deceiving. The tidy looking business may be unreliable and the messy can be reliable. Demonstrating the use of a documented quality system may be a good sign, but the most important thing in China is ‘relationship’. 21 years experience in China helps!
Inspection as a means of detecting failures in a process/product or failure in a documented quality system is always useful. However, in China an equally crucial aspect is ‘being seen’ to have a presence. Much of the bad reputation ascribed to Chinese products would be avoided if buyers had taken the time and expense to inspect each order. There are many inspections agencies. Our advice is to be sure that the inspector you use is not local, and has no relationship to the seller. We can, of course, organise an international independent test body to take samples and do tests for you. But, care must be taken in how the samples are chosen. Aierland staff will be independent. We will do it as if it was being done for ourselves.
Before engaging Aierland please be aware that it is very difficult to protect copyright in China. The national ethos and legal system do not support the concept of copyright. However steps may be taken to reduce the risk. We recommend that components be made in separate factories with no links to each other, and that final assembly be done in a third location. Aierland can help with this. We can also help you to register your copyright in China.
Office space is Asia is amongst the most expensive in the world. Time zone differences play havoc with the communication. When doing business appearance is important. Even more so in Asia. We can provide you with an office address, phone answering service, mail forwarding, meeting room facilities etc. so that effectively you have a representative and low cost office in Hong Kong.Perhaps you need to organise a stand at an exhibition. Maybe you need someone to gather information. If you need someone be present for you as a buyer, or a seller we can do so.
Travelling in any new country can present a challenge. China is particularly difficult because very few people speak English, and most signs, announcements etc. are in Chinese. It becomes even more difficult in areas where local dialects are spoken. You may have an arrangement to meet a supplier who collects you from the airport, books a hotel and provides you with a company guide. If you wish to follow other leads and make arrangements to travel to other locations we recommend you have an independent guide. We will find other manufacturers, take care of the travel arrangements and be present as an interpretor/translator.
Due diligence requirements can be helped by our reports on the manufacturer done as per your specific requirements. Doing business in China is based on building relationships. While contracts and agreements are difficult to enforce, we recommend that you prepare documents which clarify the requirements and specifications and responsibilities of all concerned. In reality some would argue that legal contracts are worthless, our experience is that having something on paper does help to clarify the detail. This clarification can help in maintaining the all important relationships. Aierland can recommend law firms in Hong Kong, or China, and can help with document transpaltion.
Many countries now make available Bills of Lading for all imports. Some even make available invoice details. Aierland can act as the named buyer so that your company name does not appear on the Bill of Lading. Your rivals will not be able to know your source by using Importgenius etc..
